Merge TMX files
Add new translations from one or more .tmx files to your main translation memory — without duplicate units. You see what would change before anything is written, you decide every conflict, and the original files stay untouched. It runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

What it does
Merge without duplicates or surprises
No duplicate units
A source sentence the memory already knows does not get a new unit. If only a language is missing, it is added to the existing one.
Preview before writing
Compare first: every pair is sorted into new sentence, new language, already in memory, conflict or unverified. Nothing is written until you merge.
You decide every conflict
When the memory and an increment translate a sentence differently, keep the memory, take the increment or keep both — one by one or all at once.
Reads UTF-16 exports
Trados and memoQ often export TMX in UTF-16. The encoding is detected from the first bytes, even without a byte order mark, and the result is written as UTF-8.
Human-checked pairs only
Optionally leave out pairs marked as machine translation (origin = MT), so unreviewed output never reaches your main memory.
Three files you can check
Download the merged memory, a .tmx with the pairs that were set aside, and a CSV log of every decision. The originals are never overwritten.

Your memories never leave your computer
TMX merge runs in your browser. The main memory and the increments are read and merged locally — nothing is uploaded and no copy is kept on a server. Handy for client memories you are not allowed to upload to third-party services.
How it works
Merge in three steps
- 01
Create an account
Sign up with your email. The 30-day trial starts right away and needs no card.
- 02
Choose and compare
Pick the main memory and one or more increments, or connect a TMX folder. Compare shows what would happen.
- 03
Decide and merge
Choose a wording for each conflict, merge, and download the result with a CSV log of every decision.
FAQ
Questions about merging TMX files
How do I merge two TMX files into one?
Choose one file as the main memory and the other as an increment, then compare and merge. Sentences the memory does not know are added, missing languages are filled in, and no duplicate units are created.
What happens when the same sentence has two different translations?
It is reported as a conflict. For each one you keep the wording from the memory, take the one from the increment, or keep both side by side. Every decision is recorded in the CSV log.
Why does my TMX file show zero units or fail to import?
One frequent cause is the encoding: a TMX exported in UTF-16 and read as UTF-8 yields no units at all. TMX merge detects UTF-16 from the first bytes of the file and writes the merged memory in UTF-8.
Can I merge several TMX files at once?
Yes. Select several .tmx files as increments in one go. In Chromium-based browsers such as Chrome and Edge you can also connect a whole folder and write the result back to it. If two increments contradict each other, the first one is kept and the case is logged.
Can it handle large translation memories?
Yes. Files are read in chunks rather than loaded whole, so memories of tens of megabytes work in the browser. Units that are not changed are passed through exactly as they were.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser on your own computer, and the original files are never overwritten.
Can I leave out machine-translated segments?
Yes. With “human-checked pairs only” turned on, pairs marked as machine translation (origin = MT) are set aside instead of merged.
How much does it cost?
The first 30 days are free and need no card. After that it is €4 a month for all four tools — document translator, alignment, TMX editor and TMX merge — and you can cancel any time.
